Spring Members’ Meeting held for OSA Members

March 29, 2022

OSA Chair Andy Hepworth was delighted to welcome members to an engaging and rewarding Spring Members’ Meeting at the Kettering Park Hotel on Wednesday 23 March.  The meeting covered a wide variety of issues – from investments to market research, regulation and sustainability.

With preparations for 100% Optical nearly complete, those attending were reminded of the value to the membership of the benefits open to them at the event. This includes the opportunity to run their own presentations on the OSA stand, as well as free use of meeting rooms.  Andy Hepworth also confirmed that there will be an OSA keynote speaker on Monday 25 April – Peter Thomas of Moorfields Eye Hospital will be discussing transforming healthcare with AI, an important subject of growing interest.

There were hugely informative presentations on the work of the OSA sustainability committee, explaining why this issue matters to the optical sector and what companies can do, courtesy of OSA consultant Ann Blackmore and Emily Andrews of Eyespace Eyewear.

Ann once again took the floor to give an update on the UK regulatory environment. She reminded members that the OSA are represented at MHRA devices industry liaison meetings, which means that OSA members can have their concerns heard and, at least as important, help shape future regulations and guidance.

Commenting on the new UK regulations, Ann said: “With little over a year to go until new UK regulations and guidance for medical devices are in place, it is essential that all OSA members contribute to make sure we make the most of the opportunity we have to help MHRA get those regulations and that guidance right for the optical sector.”

The meeting concluded with an update from courier company i2i Citipost who outlined the potential for improved deliveries in the optical market later in the year.

Andy said that he looked forward to meeting OSA members again in the summer when, for the second time, the OSA would be hosting a summer members’ event.  This year it will take place on 6 and 7 June at the prestigious Belfry Hotel.  More details will be available shortly. Andy closed the meeting and thanked the speakers along with members for attending and noted that in 100% Optical and the Summer meeting, he would be seeing them soon at two fantastic events!
